Although Gintoki is well-known for his comedic nature, he has a serious, emotional side to him as well. He may jokingly act like a coward most of the time and attempt to leave his friends behind when his own life is is danger, but he is actually very protective of his friends and is willing to risk his life for them. Gintoki is also extremely afraid of ghosts and, despite being sensitive to their presence, will often times deny their existence.
